With the ceremonial inauguration of a new production hall, Nammo Schönebeck is sending a strong signal for growth, innovation, and the industrial future of Saxony-Anhalt. The world market leader in sports ammunition is investing around €15 million in the modernization and expansion of its production site. The new facility will create additional manufacturing capacity, enable the use of state-of-the-art production technologies, and provide the foundation for further growth.

Sven Schulze, Prime Minister of Saxony-Anhalt, emphasized the importance of the investment for the site's long-term development during the opening ceremony: “With this investment, Nammo is reaffirming its commitment to our state and to the people who contribute every day to the company’s success through their dedication. This demonstrates that Saxony-Anhalt is a modern industrial location offering outstanding conditions for growth and innovation. We have a highly skilled workforce, strong companies, excellent infrastructure, and reliable partners. These are the factors that make our state an attractive place to invest. As the state government, we will continue along this path and create the conditions that enable companies to invest in Saxony-Anhalt, secure existing jobs, and create new ones.”

The new production hall is the centerpiece of the first phase of a comprehensive development project. In addition to the new building, modern production equipment has been installed, a new changing facility for employees has been constructed, and extensive maintenance measures have been carried out. With the official commissioning of the new facility, twenty new jobs will initially be created. A second expansion phase, with a potential investment volume of €30–40 million and additional jobs, is currently under review.

For Alexander Wilhelm, Managing Director of Nammo Schönebeck, the opening marks an important milestone in the company’s development: “The new production hall provides the foundation for sustainably expanding our manufacturing capacity and serving our customers around the world even more efficiently. At the same time, we are making a conscious investment in the Schönebeck site and in our employees. Today’s opening is an important step in our long-term growth strategy.”

District Administrator Markus Bauer said the company’s decision demonstrates that the Salzland district is recognized as an attractive place to live, do business, and conduct research. “Together with our towns and municipalities, we are creating the framework conditions that companies like Nammo Schönebeck need in order to develop sustainably.” He added that he is particularly pleased that products from the Salzland district are used in elite sports. “This fits perfectly with our ‘Made in Salzlandkreis’ campaign and serves as excellent promotion for the region between Halle and Magdeburg.” He expressed confidence that these investments will generate further economic and social momentum for the region.

Schönebeck’s Lord Mayor Bert Knoblauch also welcomed the development: “Schönebeck continues to develop successfully—as a strong business and industrial location, a city of sport, and a great place to live. Nammo’s investment is an important signal and demonstrates that companies are making a long-term commitment to our location. I am delighted by this decision and thank Nammo for the trust they have placed in our city.”

Nammo Schönebeck is a wholly owned subsidiary of Nammo AS, headquartered in Raufoss, Norway. Since the integration of the Schönebeck site in 1998, the company has been part of the international Nammo Group. At its Schönebeck facility, the company manufactures high-quality ammunition for sporting applications. Nammo is particularly well known in the sport of biathlon. As the global market leader in sports and biathlon ammunition, the company has established a strong international reputation. At the 2026 Olympic Winter Games in Milano Cortina, nearly 90 percent of all athletes relied on Lapua ammunition produced in Schönebeck. Multiple Olympic champion and multiple world champion Johannes Thingnes Bø also used Nammo ammunition in his successful competitions. Together with Raimo Helasmäki, a representative of the parent company, he attended the inauguration of the new production hall. “Behind every sporting success is a team—and that includes the people who develop and manufacture our ammunition with the highest level of precision. I am very pleased to see Nammo investing in modern production and the future of its Schönebeck facility. Quality, reliability, and continuous improvement are essential—in elite sports just as they are in manufacturing,” said Johannes Thingnes Bø.

The Nammo Group employs around 4,000 people worldwide at locations across Europe, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Switzerland. In 2024, the company generated revenues of approximately €1 billion. The Schönebeck site has also shown continuous positive development. Following a workforce of 87 employees in 2023, the number increased to 101 in 2025. The company currently employs 120 people. During the same period, annual revenue rose from €20.3 million in 2023 to €27.3 million in 2025.
